“DxB is like – A shared flat!”
Julian Grote, Industrial Designer – N+P Industrial Design
DxB – What is your experience?
From a design consulting perspective I can say, design and business have a very intricate interrelation. It´s like living in a shared flat. People come with different backkgrounds and expectations. Translating their various slangs and demands is a real science and requires a proactive attitude.
I believe both sides can and should learn more from each other.
DxB – What drives innovation?
From my experience ideas do not just pop up. Ideas grow.
Therefore a well structured and finely composed process is the best way to grow ideas and ensure innovation. During this process many hurdles have to be taken. To be able to preserve a high
degree of innovation at market launch all stakeholders need to
cultivate interdisciplinary and understandable communication habits throughout the whole process. Otherwise innovation gets lost on the way.
Communication is one key factor that drives innovation.
DxB – What is the future?
As of today design is the only profession focused on communicating
ideas for a broad audience. A common communication of ideas is essential for a safe transfer of concepts between interdisciplinary collaborators and all project phases.
One future task of design will be to bridge the gap between different business cultures – starting at the fuzzy front end of product development.
